Mhael Atriedes

Mhael Atriedes was born on the planet Malfi in the year 697 M41.  Little to nothing is remembered of his formative years not even the name of his mother.  In fact what was known has been been expunged from all records, the original Mhael Atriedes never existed.

What is known is that in the year 799 M41, Teach Atriedes adopted an unknown boy into his house and raised him as his own.  What is not known is where he came from.

Teach Atriedes had an obsession, he longed to find the location of The Eternal Praetorian and the Emperor's Testament along with the undoubted wealth that lay with them.  Believing that this would aid him in restoring the once good name of his house, whilst also making them a major power within the Koronus expanse.

Wherever he travelled he would quietly seek information as to their history and location.  Whilst following one such lead, the Forward unto Dawn's auger arrays intercepted a distress signal whilst travelling through the immatarium. There could be no doubt the signal was Atriedes but an ancient one that had not been used in nearly a century.

Teach could not resist, risking ship and crew he made to intercept the distress signal.

What he found was an escape capsule, something that would only be used by a commander or very high ranking bridge officer.  The vessel looked like it had been through hell raked with claws and covered with scorch marks. Wishing to keep what he had found in the warp a secret, he examined the cargo alone.

His discovery filled him with new hope, inside was a boy of no more than 13 years, covered in blood and mucus and on the verge of death.  It was however the boys possessions that intrigued him most.  In the boys hands, he clasped an ancient powersword one unlike anything Teach could find in the Atriedes histories, a beautiful weapon withi an archaic adamantine hilt and covered with ancient runes. Perhaps more interesting than this, the boy was in possession of a long lost warrant of trade and a command key.

No one knows of these discoveries as Teach never spoke of them, where he hid them may forever be a mystery.

However the boy, dressed in the black and gold of Atriedes nobility must surely remember.  Dna tests proved what Teach had already guessed, the boy was Barbossa's.

This was Teach's chance the key to unlocking the Barbossa legacy.  The child must know something but some terror had scarred the boys mind and he remembered nothing other than his name, Mhael.

Hoping that one day the boy would remember something of use and unwilling to let him out of his sight for long, Teach adopted him.  All the while keeping secret his true lineage and never mentioning the possessions he found with him.

Mhael the boy was difficult, prone to violence and dark moods as he suffered from appalling night terrors, a century trapped within the warp had left its mark upon him.  Despite this, Teach grew to love him and gave him the best training money could buy, where he excelled at melee combat and command.  Charming and good looking he became something of a womaniser and gained a reputation of a decadent rogue.  But that as Teach knew this was not the real Mhael Atriedes. For he was two people, one an irresistible leader of men, a warrior without peer or fear.  The other still a scared little boy, terrified of the night and the horrors that lie within it.  Who even to this day cannot sleep before he carves the symbols into his flesh that protect him from the dark, unknown to him the symbols match the ones on the blade he was found with 22 years ago.
